Preparing Your Home for Window or Door Installation

• Confirm parking arrangements for a van, and let neighbours know if on-street parking is tight
• Check pets have somewhere secure to be kept away from open doorways during the day
• Arrange for anyone particularly noise-sensitive, such as a baby's nap schedule or a home-working call, to be planned around the working hours you have been given
• Order any curtains, blinds or window film separately if new frame dimensions differ slightly from the old ones

1. 01Clear each openingRemove curtains, blinds and any furniture within roughly a metre of each window or door being replaced.
2. 02Move valuables and fragile itemsTake pictures, ornaments and anything fragile off walls and surfaces near the work area, particularly upstairs where vibration from removal work can travel.
3. 03Clear access routesMake sure hallways, stairs and the route from the front door to each opening are clear, since materials and old frames need to pass through.
4. 04Protect large furniture that cannot moveAnything too large to relocate, such as a sofa or wardrobe, should be covered or pulled away from the immediate work area.

Provide access at the agreed time, point out anything fragile or sensitive that the team should be aware of, and leave a means of contact if you are not staying on site. Beyond that, the team will lay their own protection and manage the work area.
