The A66 and the A69 put County Durham and the Tyne Valley within reach, and the North East is where a good deal of our larger contemporary work comes from.
From Appleby-in-Westmorland the A66 runs east to Barnard Castle, Darlington and the Tees Valley, and the A69 runs north-east towards Hexham and the Tyne Valley. Both are straightforward routes, and they make the North East a region we work in genuinely rather than nominally — though on a selective basis rather than as everyday territory.
The building stock is varied and interesting: Durham's Georgian and Victorian stone housing, Teesdale farmhouses around Barnard Castle and Middleton, the Tyne Valley's substantial detached properties around Hexham and Corbridge, and a steady supply of high-specification new builds and extensive renovations across the region.
Newcastle and the coastal conurbation are at the outer edge of what we take on, and only for substantial projects. We prefer to be clear about that at the outset rather than travel for work that suits a local supplier better.

Contemporary extensions and new builds
A high proportion of our North East work is contemporary: large sliding door runs, corner glazing, gable-end screens and complete new-build glazing packages specified alongside an architect. These projects benefit most from early involvement, because structural openings, thresholds and thermal detailing are far cheaper to resolve on paper than on site.

Pennine exposure on the western side
Upper Teesdale and the higher ground towards Weardale and Allendale are as exposed as anywhere in our Cumbrian working area, and the specification should reflect that rather than defaulting to a lowland package. Coating grade, drainage capacity and hardware all matter more at altitude, and triple glazing is worth genuine consideration.

Applications are handled by the relevant local authority — Durham County Council, Northumberland County Council, Darlington Borough Council and others depending on location. The North Pennines National Landscape covers much of the western uplands, and conservation areas are common in Barnard Castle, Durham, Hexham and Corbridge. Confirm your property's designation before specifying.
