Short answer

In short: a window replacement programme is planned so that openings are made and closed in the same day wherever possible. You will lose the use of individual rooms for a day at a time, there will be dust and noise, and the house will be secure overnight. Moving out is occasionally sensible, but it is the exception.

What a typical day looks like

Practical preparation

Plan where pets will be; external doors are open for periods during the day.
Expect dust even with protection, particularly on removal days.
Agree which rooms are being done on which days so you can work around it.
Think about parking and access for deliveries, especially on a narrow lane.
