Why this system exists

01

A wider clear opening

Both leaves open, so a garden room or dining space connects properly with the terrace without the track and stack of a folding system.

02

Slim profiles, large glass

Aluminium carries more glass on less frame than any other material at this scale, so the pair reads as glazing rather than joinery.

03

Contemporary or traditional

Minimal framing for a modern extension, or heritage steel-look proportions with slender glazing bars for a cottage or period elevation.

04

Colour without compromise

Powder-coated architectural colours, dual colour inside and out, and bespoke RAL options on many systems.

05

Durable in an exposed climate

Thermally broken frames, drained thresholds and gaskets selected around the orientation of the elevation rather than one default detail.

06

Secure by specification

Multipoint locking with PAS 24 tested configurations and laminated glass available. Specification varies depending on system and configuration.

Contemporary or heritage — two routes to the same opening

Contemporary aluminium French doors use minimal framing and clean architectural proportions. They suit modern extensions, rendered elevations and rear openings where the glass should do the talking.

Heritage and steel-look French doors reproduce the slender bars and traditional proportions of original steel joinery, which is usually the right answer on cottages, barn conversions and period properties — and often the version a conservation officer will accept. Our heritage French door designs sit within our wider entrance and heritage aluminium offering and remain available in full.

Configuration options

Fully glazed pairs for maximum daylight, Georgian and glazing bar designs where the elevation wants a traditional rhythm, side lights to widen the composition and top lights where the structural opening is tall.

Doors can be configured to open in or open out depending on the room layout, furniture and the level of the terrace outside. We confirm the handing, threshold and swing at survey rather than on installation day.

Coordinated aluminium systems

Selected FrameX door systems allow single doors, French pairs and bifolding doors to be created from the same family of aluminium profiles. Across a project that means consistent frame depth, sightline, hardware and finish from the side door to the rear elevation.

Where a particular configuration falls outside that platform we will tell you, rather than describe a match that is not there.

Colours, handles and thresholds

Anthracite grey and black lead the palette, with contemporary greys, neutrals and bespoke RAL colours available on many systems, and dual colour where the interior wants a lighter reveal.

Lever and lever-pad handles are available in matching and contrasting finishes, and thresholds range from weathered profiles on exposed elevations to low-line details where level access matters. Availability varies depending on system and configuration.

Part of a complete elevation

French doors rarely arrive alone. They sit between aluminium windows, alongside a set of bifolds or a slim slider, and the value of specifying them together is that every frame on the elevation shares one language.

We survey the whole opening schedule, advise where a slider or bifold would serve the architecture better, and install the package as one programme across Penrith, Kendal, Keswick, Windermere and the wider Lake District.
