Scale a hinge cannot carry
A floor-mounted pivot takes the weight of a leaf far larger than conventional hinges allow, up to full ceiling height.

Hardware you never see
The pivot sits in the floor and the head, so the leaf appears to float with nothing interrupting the frame.

Offset or centre pivot
An offset axis behaves like a conventional door; a centre pivot creates two openings and a genuinely theatrical entrance.

Correctly balanced, a very large leaf moves with one hand and holds position where you leave it.
A door as a piece of architecture
A pivot door is specified when the opening is meant to be noticed: the entrance to a principal suite, the threshold between a hallway and a double-height living space, the way into a garden room. The proportions are deliberately generous and the leaf reads as a plane rather than a door.
Plan it early
The pivot is fixed into the structural floor, so the detail needs to be agreed before screed and finished floors are laid. Bringing us in at first fix is the difference between a flush, silent pivot and a compromise.
Considered detailing is what separates a fitted window from a finished one.
