Why this system exists
01
Where a hinged leaf would collide with furniture, joinery or a circulation route, a sliding panel simply travels along the wall.
02
An exposed slim track for an industrial reading, or a concealed pocket where the panel should vanish entirely.
03
One panel across a study opening, or two panels meeting centrally on a wide opening between principal rooms.
04
Damped gear at both ends of the run, so a heavy glazed panel never slams into its stop.
Sliding doors earn their keep in the rooms with the least spare space: a snug off a hallway, a home office within a landing, a utility beside a run of tall units. Nothing swings, so the floor area stays usable.
The trade-off is honest — a sliding panel needs somewhere to go. We check the wall run, the switches and the radiators at survey before recommending a track.
An exposed track reads as an industrial detail and suits a barn conversion or a warehouse-style interior. A concealed track within the ceiling void gives a quieter, more architectural result and is best planned before plasterboard goes up.

Considered detailing is what separates a fitted window from a finished one.

A fire rating is decided by where the door sits, not by what it is made of. Here is how to work out which of your openings need one, and who signs it off.

Glass Advice · 3 min read
Yes — and that is the reason steel-look fire doors exist. The glass simply has to be a certified fire-rated make-up rather than ordinary toughened glass.
